This video is a stage performance with a simple narrative. The setting is in a mansion in such rooms as bedroom, hall and pool. The other locations involve a police station and outside with all the paparazzi. The main theme for this music video is all about Lady GaGa killing and getting back at her boyfriend. There are a lot of different shots and angles in the camerawork for this music video. There are a lot of close ups of Lady GaGa which is linked to Andrew Goodwins theory of demand of close ups from record label. There is a lot of high and low angles involved as these show the effect of who has the power throughout this video. Within this video there is a mix of lighting. Fro example, there are scenes with flashing lights, natural lighting and fewer darker scene's with darker action (e.g. when Lady GaGa is going to prison). The main character/performer is Lady GaGa who plays the girlfriend and is the one trying to kill her boyfriend. The boyfriend is the next main character , however, it is mainly about Lady GaGa. The editing is mainly straight cuts with a few flashes. The pace of the editing has a fast pace and matches the music, which again links to Goodwins theory. For special effects, the video goes from colour to black and white, there is a special effect of Lady GaGa falling at the beginning and the special effects are used when there are photos being taken of Lady GaGa outside the police station. They did this because it makes the video more interesting and makes it (especially with the end sequence), more realistic.
The effect this video gives is that this is a mini short story and it is suggesting that the boyfriend is in charge at the beginning but by the end Lady GaGa wins and becomes in charge. All of the special effect, show the boyfriend is an evil person and is a murder, and that Lady GaGa is innocent and it shows why she hates him and why she wants to get back at him.
From this music video, our group can take that we can have a very simple plot with simple camera shots and simple editing and yet it can have a really powerful message.
